The main purpose of this workshop was to work with real world materials (such as clay) and create soft, smooth, and fluid objects. Emphasis was placed on the curvature of lines, the dept of a crater, the angle of appearance. Working with soft surfaces is highly important when creating models, designs, and plans, showing how important it is to have a strong base understanding.
Diving into the specific creations, I have sculpted my hand, a desert stone structure, and a couch. While each of these objects are extremely different, that bring attention to the fact that principles are shared throughout.
The hand is made with effort placed on the texture of the sculpture, i was able to create defined lines to show movement, have cracked fingers to resemble age lines, and have a smooth skin like appearance from the clay.
The Stone structure was made with with emphasis on shapes, shadows, and smoothness. There is a wide array of arches, pillars, and Formation throughout that all highlight these characteristics in their own way.
The couch was made with attention on different types of materials. Not just what the material is being represented, but different materials when being created. The couch is made with two different types of clay to show contrast unattainable way otherwise.
